Online book store

The Palouse Community Center online book store started in 2006 in the former Community Center building. Pastor Corey Laughary's brother operated an online book store, through Amazon.com, in conjunction with their church, in Spokane. Corey suggested starting online book sales to assist in raising money to help defray the costs of the Community Center. The board discussed the idea, agreed, and the store was started. Books in Needful Things were the first books entered into the Amazon Web site.

Community volunteers helped build bookshelves at the Center. Discarded library books were donated by the Palouse library as well as the use of the library’s computers for book entering' parties. Over 500 books were entered and shelved. More shelves were built as the number of books increased. Our inventory increased to over 1000 books during the month of December.

After the Community Center vacated its old site, the Palouse Arms apartments were chosen as the new location.

Today there are 6 people selling and shipping books. The amount of time required depends on the number of books sold, usually from 1-3 hours daily. At the end of June, there were 3620 books available online.

There is a critical need for more assistance to fill in when someone is unavailable, sick, or on vacation, as well as entering the book information into Amazon.com. The data entering can be done at home on personal computers. All help is welcomed.

All books are donated. Old time pulp westerns and romances are the top sellers. Text books generally sell well too.
